TSUNAMI “EVACUATION DRILL” – INTRODUCTION PROGRAMME
Approx. 150 families villagers
from rekawa attended this meeting in coordination with the Disaster Management
Unit of Hambantota (members of the Air Force).
Committees have been formed.
Five subcommittees have been formed
those are Early warning and Dissemination sub-committee, Search and Rescue
subcommittee, Relief and Camp management subcommittee, Health and welfare
subcommittee, Restoration and reconstruction subcommittee.
Drill consisted of two part
- Awareness program- risk assessment, disaster awareness,
mapping…etc.
- Evening drill
A Megaphone has been handed over to this
committee.
The cheque of Rs. 20’000.00 has been handed over
to H.H.K. Ravindra of the Disaster Management Unit of Hambantota. By Stanley

At 2.30 pm the appointed people have been given a uniform. After that alarm has been given by
megaphone covering all routes at the same time.
The villagers had to meet at a given point and register.
It was a successful “Tsunami Evacuation Drill”. The
Rotary Club of Hambantota is the first club who has done this program.The Director General of the
Disaster Management Center was thanking our club for giving support and the

English to the Remote Areas Bundala English Classes
The Rotary Club of Hambantota in keeping on with our programme of English classes to the Remote Areas. It has commenced the third English class in a place called Bundala in the Hambantota District.
This school of 80 students
cannot access tuition facilities in English learning adequately so our club
decided to help 25 of these students. The course started February 2011 with a duration of one year in which the
students will receive a certificate from our club.
The course has been received
with enthusiasm and with the support of the principal and community.
Included in the programme has
been a volunteer interactive workshop to make the class even more innovative. This
class has made a “Zine” (magazine) with the help of a volunteer where children
have learnt to handle a camera and be more aware of their own environment in
keeping with visual assist English.
The Rotary Club monitors the
ongoing programme and includes the local School teacher in this process.

Gageyaya Primary school is very vemote and consists less Insfastrueture. This school l is situated at Tissamaharamaya. Only 63 students ware studing.

30 school Levers ware enrolled for computer skill Training Programme from low income and woman Headed family members in Hambantota, Ambalantota DS Divitrous on 14.01.2012 at Electro – Nenasala Ambalantota.
This programme is Funded by Rotary club of Arlesheim Switzerland and implemented by Rotary club of Hambantota.

Kanuketiya primary school is situated near by Hungama town. the total number of student s on this school is 47. The school suffers from lack of proper infrastructures and transports.
43,680.00 Rupees valued 47 gift vouchers are distributed by Rotary club of Hambantota. For buying shoes to all the students of the school.

35,280.00 Valued shoes gift vouchers donated to the student are one from low income families for buying shoes to Mahawela primary school.
The shoe gift vouchers were donated to whole student of the school on 06.12.2011 in school premises.
Mahawela primary vidyalaya is situated near by Agunakolapelessa town in Hambantota district and very remote, It suffers from lack of infrastructures. Total amount of student are 52 in the school.

H/KArabagalmulla primary school does not have transport facilities and situated at Karabagalmulla which is very remote aria in Ambalantota DS division Hambantota district.
Number of all students of this school was 125 only of students studying at present.

The 11th Presidents Installation of Rotary Club of Hambantota was held on 27.11.2011 Kerala Kele restaurant at Ambalantota. District Governor Gehan Siribaddana, District secretary Gorge Jesuthasan, Asst Governor Rizwan, District Coordinator Major general Susil Chandrapala, were the District officials from Rotary International District 3220.
Rtn. Hihan, Rtn. Kavinga, Rtn. Roshan, Rtn. Marcel Bandaranayake and Ann participated representing cluster clubs. Asst Manager of Commercial Bank Ambalantota Mr. Buddhin Genige was the guest speaker on this occasion.

Hambantota Rotarians Organize a Child Nutrition Awareness Workshop for Preschool Teachers
A Child Nutrition Awareness workshop was held on 5th October 2011 at Hambantota Pradeesiyasabha Auditorium for preschool teachers. This program was sponsored by Rotary Club of Hambantota.
About 90 Teachers attended this workshop representing 60 pre schools. The importance of uplifting the child nutrition for the development of the country was highlighted by Mr.Gunathilaka, the secretary of Pradeesiyasabha Hambantota in his speech and he appreciated Rotarians of Hambantota for organizing the work shop.
Rtn Stanley Daluwatta, the President of Rotary Club, Hambantota explained what is Rotary and objectives of Rotary community, to the gathering.
This workshop was conducted by Dr. Pamal Sudusinha, the MOH of Hambantota, and Rtn. Lal, Rtn. Anjeli, Rtn. Ariyasena joined the workshop. One of the pre school teacher expressed her views and requested Rotary club of Hambantota to organize more workshops to other rural preschool teachers also.

Nutrition Awareness Programme - phase ii
The nutrition awareness programme- phase ii was held at Ranaviru Community Hall , Lunama on 29th September 2011. This programme was implemented by Rotary club of Hambantota under District Simplified Grant.
Grama Niladari of Lunama Division, woman development officer of. A.G.A office Ambalantota , president , Stanley Daluwatta , Rtn. Nuwan, Rtn. Ariyasena , Rtn. Kawshalya, Rtn. Ganga and Rtn. Lal participated in this programme. Dr. L.U. Jayaruwan. of Base Hospital, Hambantota, was the resource person of this programme.
It was a notable incident that family members of disabled war hero's attended this event. Ninety five persons of different ages from Lunama, Nonagama, Kiula and Hatagala attended this programme.

Nutrition Awareness Programme – Phase 01
The 1st programme on Nutrition Awareness for community was held by Rotary Club of Hambantota at community hall, Seetharamaya, Sisilasagama on 31.08.2011. Over 100 pregnant ladies from family medical areas of Mirijjavila, Dehigahalanda, Walawa, and Chitthragala attended this programme. Dr. Pamal Sudusinghe, the Medical Officer of Helth, Hambantota, was the resource person of this Programme and President, Stanley Daluwattha and Rtn Ariyasena addressed the gathering. Rotarians Anjeli Andrado, Nuwan Madawan also joined this programme and Rtn Lal was the moderator.
Several pregnant women who participated in the programme expressed their views and appreciated the members of Hambantota Rotary Club for organizing such an event. Financial support was given by Rotary District 3220 under District simplified Grant (DSG)

A Blood Donation Camp was held by Rotary Club of Hambantota on 16th August 2011 at National Vocational Training Centre, Mirijjavila. A Large number of trainees of the Vocational Training Centre came to donate blood. President of Hambantota Rotary Club, Stanley Daluwatta, Rtn. Lotti Thomas, Rtn. Angeli and Rtn. Ganga Jayasinhe joined this program. President, Stanley, was the first blood donor of the camp. This blood donation camp was helpful to grow public image of the Rotary Club.

English Books Donation by The Rotary Club of Hambantota
Valuable English text books were donated to Vijayaba National School by The Rotary Club of Hambantota on the 21st July 2011 .
The principle of Vijayaba National School Mr.Ratnayake said the giving of these important English books to the school library would increase the students knowledge and their reading ability. In appreciation he thanked all the Rotarians of the Rotary club of Hambantota for their contribution.

Computer Skill Training Program
This program is specially organized for low income and women headed families in Hambantota District.
The 8th batch was recruited on 9th July 2011 in Electro-Nenasala Ambalantota.125 low income family benificiaries have been trained so far, under this program and given opportunities to uplift their computer literacy knowledge through this program.
The program is conducted by Rotary Club of Hambantota and funded by Rotary Club of Arlesheim, Switzerland. President Stanley Daluwatta, PP Lotti Thomas, Rtn. Nuwan Madawan were participating and distributed the certificates to the past batch on this occasion
